Content Development Officer, Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA)

“I have been practicing Pilates for almost 20 years and I love teaching movement to other people.

When I’m moving my body in this way it doesn’t prevent autoimmune flares but it lowers the illnesses’ impact on my body; it doesn’t cure depression and anxiety, but I have less of the overwhelming days; it doesn’t eliminate the permanent injury of the car accident injury but it does keep me in a lower pain state and able to carry out more functional tasks.

Although I have struggled as a disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent woman, I want to acknowledge that I carry cis, white, financial, and class privilege and that has enabled me to find, and ultimately create spaces that I feel safe to train in. I want to see more accessible spaces available to women and gender diverse people with disability to train in. Spaces that are safe, both physically and emotionally, to ensure their chosen movement practice is a continued journey - because it’s a positive experience!”
